Visa Requirements

Entry into China is by a Visitor's Visa, which is obtainable on application to any Chinese Embassy. This visa is usually for a single visit anywhere in China for up
a duration of up to three months only. Once here, you can apply for employment, and if offered a full-time contract, Berlitz will assist with
obtaining a Resident's Visa and an Employment Permit. After one year of employment, Berlitz will reimburse you for the costs of obtaining these documents.
Hiring Procedure

Once we have received your application, we will contact you regarding an interview. Interviews are held at the language center during regular office hours. If you reside outside of China, please inform us as to when you are planning to be in the country so that we can set up a personal interview. Please note that any costs incurred while travelling to the interview are covered by the applicant.
Candidates should have a minimum of a University Degree in any subject.
Experience in teaching languages to non-native students is desirable, but
not essential, for we provide you with an intense five-day Berlitz
Instructor Training free of charge. After successful completion of this
training, you are eligible to apply to any of the over 400 Berlitz
language centers around the world as an instructor.

Teaching Contracts

Berlitz engages instructors under full-time and part-time contracts. Classes are held between 9 a.m. to the end of 9 p.m. every weekday, but not Sundays. The Chinese have holidays for the Spring Festival, sometimes called the Chinese New Year, the date of which is not fixed. It is usually early in our calendar year, and usually lasts for 7 days. Shops and stores remain open. For the normal time of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. They also have seven days holidays for the May Day Festival, but although Berlitz tries to close during this festival many students continue their studies through it. The Chinese do not recognize Christmas and do not grant a holiday for this. Usually businesses close for one day for the calendar New Year, however.

Getting Started

Our experience has shown that you will initially need to bring approximately $700 - $1,000 with you to budget for acquiring an apartment or similar accommodation, day-to-day living expenses and miscellaneous expenses that can be incurred until your first pay period. It is also necessary to open a bank account, which facilitates the transfer of monthly wages, payment of bills, etc.
