Visa Requirements

As a non-Hong Kong resident, it is necessary to have a working visa to reside, and ultimately work in Hong Kong. You can initially enter Hong Kong with a three-month tourist visa. At this time you can apply for a position and partake in the 7-day instructor training. Once you have been offered a contract, you go to the "Immigration Department" and apply for a working Visa, this process takes 4-6 weeks and the approval is based on the quality of your application. If your application is approved, your visa is changed and extended to one year with permission to work as an Instructor in Hong Kong. The minimum requirements for
the application are a degree, a minimum of 6 months teaching experience or experience in a related field, 3 references and a CELTA or TEFL is preferable, but not essential.
Visa sponsorship is offered to full-time applicants only.
Hiring Procedure

Once we have received your application, we will contact you regarding an interview. Interviews are held at the language center during regular office hours. If you reside outside of Hong Kong, please inform us as to when you are planning to be in the country so that we can set up a personal interview. Please note that any costs incurred while travelling to the interview are covered by the applicant. After successful completion of the interview process, you will be invited to attend the Berlitz Instructor Training. This will also be held at one of our language centers and is free of charge.

Teaching Contracts

We offer part-time and full time, teaching positions at our center. Most of the classes are in the morning or evening hours and Saturday. Under such conditions, the working hours are flexible and may change from week to week depending on customer requests and the demand for lessons.

Taxes and Pension Plans

Instructors are responsible for their own tax and medical payments or subscriptions.

Getting Started

Our experience has shown that you will initially need to bring approximately $3,000 - $4,500 (HK$25,000 - $35,000) with you to budget for acquiring an apartment or similar accommodation, day-to-day living expenses and miscellaneous expenses that can be incurred until your first pay period. It is also necessary to open a bank account, which facilitates the transfer of monthly wages, payment of bills, etc.
