Thank you for your interest in teaching at Berlitz in Indonesia*

Visa Requirements

By law, Berlitz is required to sponsor all instructors. The company bears the cost of this, including a visa trip to Singapore. Consequently, we withhold ten percent of your salary for the first six months, then reimburse the ten percent monthly starting in the seventh month. This is to ensure that the instructors fulfill the year's visa.
Hiring Procedure

To be eligible for work at Berlitz, you should either be a native speaker of the language you wish to teach or native-fluent. A four-year tertiary qualification and EFL certificate are desirable, although not always required. The minimum time commitment is one year.
If you are interested in applying for a position, please arrange an interview here by calling (0)21-251-4589. Interviews are held at the language center during regular office hours. If you reside outside of Indonesia, please inform us as to when you are planning to be in the country so that we can set up a personal interview. Please note that any costs incurred while travelling to the interview are covered by the applicant. After successful completion of the interview process, you will be invited to attend the Berlitz Instructor Training. This will also be held at our language center and is free of charge.

Teaching Contracts

A separate teaching contract is not required as the work visa is contractual. Full-time
instructors at this school can expect to earn from approximately eight to ten million Rupiah per month (teachers are paid on a per lesson basis) with no benefits initially, depending on how busy the school is. At the current exchange rate (which fluctuates considerably) this is equivalent to USD$1,000 - $1,200.
All teaching materials are supplied and most of the classes take place at our school located in the central banking district, although we sometimes send instructors to our corporate clients' premises. The majority of classes are one-on-one, with some small groups. Most of the students are adult professional people, we also have university and high school students, homemakers, and some children.

Getting Started

Cheap, clean accommodation is available close to the school in the form of a "Kost" (a place with private rooms, A/C, cable TV, but shared kitchen/bathroom areas) for new arrivals. Safety is still a concern these days, and there are few positive economic signs. Nevertheless, we hope to expand the business, and with an increase in the number of students, we will need more instructors.
