Visa Requirements

To be eligible to work for Berlitz Manila you may need an Alien Employment Permit. An Alien Employment Permit (AEP) is required for:
- Foreign nationals seeking admission to the Philippines to gain employment;
- Non-resident foreign nationals actually working in the Philippines under any form of contract employment;
- Non-resident foreign nationals admitted to the Philippines on non-working visas and who wish to seek employment;
- Missionaries or religious workers who intend to engage in gainful employment.
Pursuant to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Order No. 41-03 dated 12 March 2003 the following are exempted from securing an AEP:
Spouses of a Filipino national and children of foreign nationals married to Filipinos, who are permanent residents of the Philippines on immigrant status and have acquired permanent or temporary resident visa (TRV).

In addition to the AEP you will also need:
- Special Work Permit (SWP) Valid for a non-extendible period of only 6 months.
- Pre-Arranged Employment Visa or 9(g) Visa
This has an initial duration of 1 year and is extendible. The AEP and the 9(g) Visa are coterminus.

Hiring Procedure

Once we have received your application, we will contact you regarding an interview. The interview is held at our Language Center. If you reside outside of the Philippines, we will be happy to schedule a telephone interview, or if you let us know when you are planning to be in The Philippines, we can schedule an interview at that time. After the first interview you will be invited to take a test and we will contact your references. A second interview will be scheduled and after successful completion of the interview process, you will be invited to attend the Berlitz Instructor Training. This will also be held at our language center and is free of charge.

Teaching Contracts

All instructors are hired on a part-time basis. It is anticipated that this assignment will be for approximately 1 year assignment may be extended upon mutual agreement between the Center Director and Instructor.
Instructors are compensated based on the number of units taught within the month. Salaries are paid monthly, on the fifth day of the next working month or the working day preceding this if it falls on a holiday.
You may be asked to perform other assignments as assigned to him/her by the Language Center Director or Language Instruction Supervisor including, but not limited to, preparing progress reports for students, assessing students, or assisting the LIS in his/her duties. These duties will be paid at the normal per lesson rate.
The school is open from 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM Monday to Friday and from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Saturdays. Final teaching schedules will be available at 5:00 PM on the business day before the lesson is to take place. Business hours are from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Mondays to Fridays and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays.
You will be asked to submit their availability for lessons. If there is a change to this availability, please notify the company in writing at least one week prior to this change. If you are planning to be away for vacation, notice of this in writing should be submitted at least one month prior to departure.

Taxes and Pension Plans

10% withholding tax will be deducted from the salary.
