Thank you for your interest in teaching at Berlitz in Thailand
Are you familiar with Thailand?
If not, click here for an introduction to Thailand as well as some culture tips.
Berlitz Thailand has been in operation in Bangkok since 1970. We have formed a strong base of corporate customers, are well established in providing English instruction to Young Learners, and are now continuing to expand in the world of Academic Preparation for high school and university students.
We employ instructors of various nationalities at Berlitz Thailand. Our English instructors are from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the Philippines as well as the US and UK.
We also have Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, French and Chinese, as well as Thai language lessons on offer.
Currently we are looking for a part time French teacher to conduct lessons at all three of our language centers in the central business district (CBD). Although the information on this website refers primarily to English instructors the majority of information is also applicable to instructors wishing to teach French, so please take a good look at this website, and then follow the procedures in the Ready to Apply section.
Please apply in accordance with the Ready to Apply section at the bottom of this web page.
Minimum requirements for both new and existing Berlitz instructors:
- Native fluent/proficient in the language you wish to teach
- University degree
- A confirmation letter from your university that is on university headed paper, with applicable stamps and signatures, confirming your attendance for the duration of your degree ++
- A TEFL/CELTA/TESOL certificate if graduated in a non-educational degree
- Willingness to teach children as well as adults
- Prepared to teach at corporate companies sites
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
You must bring your original degree with you to Thailand not a copy. If you have transcripts this is helpful, but not essential.
Berlitz Thailand also requires a letter from your university confirming attendance. On your application/CV you must state the university that you attended, the degree obtained, and the contact details of the registrar, so that we can obtain a confirmation letter in advance.

If you are unable to obtain the university letter in advance on your application/CV you must state the university that you attended, the degree obtained, and the contact details of the registrar, so that we can obtain a confirmation letter on your behalf. |
Do not apply if you don't have a university degree.

Hiring Procedure (new applicants)

Once we have received your application and CV, we will send out a detailed questionnaire which enables us to find out more about you, your experience and your expectations of Berlitz. After we have received your completed questionnaire, we will contact you regarding an interview.
Initial Interviews are held at the Berlitz Thailand Head Office (LPN Tower 2nd Floor, Jatujak, Bangkok), and second interviews are conducted at the language center to which you will be assigned to work in.
If you reside outside of Thailand then an interview can be arranged via Skype. (www.Skype.com)
Please note that interviews for overseas applicants will only be conducted if the applicants are serious about moving to Thailand.
If you are successful in the interview process then you will be asked to enter the Berlitz Instructor Training (BIT). The training is held at our LPN Head Office and covers 9 full days of online modules and activation sessions. The training is designed to enable our new instructors to teach a good Berlitz kids or adult lesson.
After the training new instructors then enter a three (3) month probationary period. During this probationary period the new instructors will be monitored and coached by their managers so that their skills are honed to the appropriate level.

Hiring Procedure (existing Berlitz instructors)

If you are working for Berlitz in another country and wish to transfer to Thailand, then this will be considered only if you have completed one year with your existing center. Do not apply unless you have met this minimum requirement.
Please note that existing Berlitz instructors will be subject to a maximum three (3) month probationary period, unless otherwise stated. This is to ensure that the quality of lessons, attitude of the instructor, and cultural sensitivity are maintained at an acceptable level.
If you wish to transfer then please forward the following in an e-mail to the contact listed in the Ready to Apply Section at the bottom of this webpage:
- Your LIS/LMIs full name and contact e-mail
- Your CV
- Details of your last TPE score
- Your start date with Berlitz, and total lesson volume
Please ensure that you have informed your manager of your desire to transfer prior to contacting Berlitz Thailand, as we will be contacting them to ask to complete an evaluation of your performance.
If you have completed the BIT and Young Learners training there will be no need to complete this again, but some refresher and cultural training will be arranged once you arrive. This will primarily be conducted via the online modules through @Berlitz.

Visas (new and existing instructors)

At the end of last year and the beginning of 2007 the immigration department in Thailand simplified the visa process somewhat by introducing a new system within Bangkok to transfer a Visa on Arrival (VOA), or a Tourist Visa (30 or 60 days obtained through a Thai embassy/consulate) to a Non Immigrant B visa.
The suggested method of entry now for applicants outside of Thailand is to obtain a 60 day Tourist Visa through the Thai embassy in their country of origin, and then to transfer this visa to a Non Immigrant B visa at immigration in Bangkok.
Once the applicant arrives in Bangkok they need to immediately submit their relevant paper work (please refer to Minimum requirements for both new and existing Berlitz instructors above) and their passport to the HR manager at the Thailand head office.
Berlitz HR will then apply for the Ministry of Education (MOE) letter (this process takes approximately 3 weeks), and once this is received all the applicants documents, including the MOE letter will be submitted at the immigration department in Bangkok to transfer the Tourist Visa into a Non Immigrant B visa. The applicant must have a minimum of 3 weeks validity to complete this process. If the applicant has a 60 day tourist visa after 6 weeks the applicant will then be able to transfer onto a Non Immigrant B visa. If the applicant has a 30 day tourist visa this will mean leaving the country at least once, which is why a 60 day tourist visa is preferred.
The final step is transferring the Non Immigrant B visa into a Work Permit, and this process takes approximately 90 days (the Non Immigrant B visa is valid for 90 days), so this visa expires at the time the Work permit is issued.
During the majority of this process the employee will not need to do anything other than wait for Berlitz Thailand HR to contact them when they are needed to visit immigration to transfer their visa and to pick up their work permit. Berlitz will cover the cost of the work permit application but all applicants will be responsible for costs relating to the visas.

Teaching Contracts (new applicants)

We offer two types of shifts at our centers:
- 7am-4pm

- 12.15-9.10pm
(5 day working week including either a Saturday or a Sunday, or both. Weekend days are 8.30am-7pm)
New instructors working one of the two shifts above can expect to earn between 30-33k during their 3 month probation, and upwards after probation 34-38k. In Thailand we only hire people when there is sufficient lesson volume to try and give them between 6-8 lessons on a weekday and 8-12 on a weekend day.
All new instructors will be given a one year freelance contract with the option (depending on performance) after three months, to move onto a minimum guarantee contract (MG). This will be offered to the instructor at the centers discretion.
We have group, individual, semi-private and Total Immersion classes at our language centers and we also go out to companies to teach groups and individuals. The average number of students in a group at the language center is 4. Charter classes (closed company classes) vary according to the needs of the customer. The students range in age from 4 to 64, with the majority being in their 30's.

Getting Started (For applicants outside Thailand)

Our experience has shown that you will initially need to bring a minimum of $2,000 with you to budget for acquiring an apartment or similar accommodation, day-to-day living expenses and miscellaneous expenses that can be incurred until your first salary is received.
Although, it is relatively easy to find an apartment/house in Bangkok, Berlitz can assist you in finding accommodation, and also in opening a local bank account for your salary to be paid into.
The most common website used to find accommodation is http://www.thaiapartments.com.
Please look at this website or others before you arrive in Bangkok, so that you can get an idea of types of apartments and rental costs. Most of the apartments have contact e-mail addresses and the service agents can speak a reasonable level of English, so make sure that you ask questions in advance.
Due to the vast number of applications to work for Berlitz in Thailand we cannot answer every housing/living related question that you may have.
