Visa Requirements

If you are a non-resident of Australia, the following work options are available to you:

Working holiday maker - People from the following countries can apply for this visa: Canada, U.K, Ireland, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Korea, Malta and Cyprus. The applicant has to be under 30 and can work for one employer for a maximum of 3 months. Any longer than this and the candidate would have to be sponsored by the company. As we can employ many instructors locally, sponsorship from Berlitz is not an option. In addition, we usually request at least a year's commitment.
Student Visa - With this visa, you can work a maximum of 20 hours per week and full-time during holiday periods.
A Spouse whose partner has a working visa is able to work freely in Australia.

Hiring Procedure

Once we have received your application, we will contact you regarding an interview. Interviews are held at the language center during regular office hours. If you reside outside of Australia, please inform us as to when you are planning to be in the country so that we can set up a personal interview. Any costs incurred while travelling to the interview are covered by the applicant.

After successful completion of the interview process, you will be invited to attend the Berlitz Instructor Training which takes about a week to complete. On-going training at the center is also provided once you have begun working for us.

Teaching Contracts

We employ all our instructors on a part-time basis. Lesson numbers and times are flexible and may change from week to week depending on customer requests and the demand for lessons. Most lessons take place in the morning and evening. Staff are paid fortnightly and medical benefits and housing allowances are not included.

Getting Started

Our experience has shown that you will initially need to bring approximately $1,000 - $2,000 with you to budget for acquiring an apartment or similar accommodation, day-to-day living expenses and miscellaneous expenses that can be incurred until your first pay period.
